[EN] From GPT Pro: Green yerba mate tea, like its traditional counterpart, has been associated with certain health risks, particularly concerning cancer. However, these risks are primarily linked to specific consumption patterns and environmental factors.

Cancer Risk Factors:

High Consumption Levels: Regularly drinking large quantities of yerba mate (1 to 2 liters daily) over extended periods has been linked to an increased risk of various cancers, including those of the esophagus, mouth, lung, bladder, and stomach.

High Temperature Consumption: Drinking yerba mate at very hot temperatures (above 65°C or 149°F) may increase the risk of esophageal cancer. This is due to potential thermal injury to the esophageal mucosa, which can be exacerbated when combined with other risk factors like tobacco and alcohol use.

Presence of Carcinogenic Contaminants: Yerba mate leaves are often dried using smoke, leading to the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), such as benzo[a]pyrene, which are known carcinogens. These contaminants may contribute to an increased risk of cancers, especially when consumed in large amounts.

Moderation and Safe Consumption:

Moderate consumption of yerba mate, such as one to two cups per day, is generally considered safe for most individuals. To minimize potential risks, it's advisable to:

Consume yerba mate at moderate temperatures.
Verywell Health

Limit intake to no more than 1 to 2 liters per day.
Mayo Clinic

Avoid combining yerba mate consumption with smoking or excessive alcohol intake.

Choose yerba mate products that are free from additives and contaminants.

Conclusion:

While green yerba mate tea offers various health benefits, it's essential to consume it in moderation and be mindful of preparation methods to mitigate potential health risks. If you have concerns or underlying health conditions, consulting with a healthcare provider is recommended before incorporating yerba mate into your daily routine.

[EN] FANTASTIC! I'm part Uruguayan and this was amazing! Make sure to steep it at the proper temperature otherwise it'll be too bitter. Gives you a nice wake up but doesn't give you that anxious feeling I personally get with coffee.
